What is Coaching?

Coaching Plus view of Professional Coaching from its core definition and process.  

    • Coaching is a dynamic learning tool, which helps people to resolve complex situations.  It is used to distinguish and identify new goals, rolls and interactions that may occur as a demand of a social, economic or corporate system in which one is involved.
    • How do you practice Coaching?  It develops in a close confidential face-to-face relationship between the Client and the Coach.  It’s focused both on a personal and professional development of the Client. 
    • Coaching happens through dialogue, contributing and receiving information, knowledge and developing new and better personal abilities of leadership that will help in decision making on a personal and professional level. 
    • As a result, coaching will make the Client, self-conscious and find the significance of his contributions.  The Client will be able to align his thoughts, behaviors, words and actions in order to unify them.  This will result in profit, both socially and economically.
    • As a consequence, people will live with more significant options, human aspirations, consistent actions, a more balanced life, joy, intimacy, energy, abundance and focus in every aspect of their lives.

What Coaching’s NOT!

Basic differences between coaching disciplines vs. psychotherapy and/or consulting.

    • Coaching is not psychotherapy.   Psychotherapy it’s a international interpersonal relationship practiced by psychotherapist.  It aims to increase the patient’s well being by looking for past experiences that might still be affecting patient’s life today. Psychotherapist employ a range of techniques to influence or persuade the client to adapt or change in the direction the client has chosen.
    • Coaching is not consulting.  Which is generally made from giving topic suggestions to talk about and develop.  Consultants will be a specialized on the topics he suggests. 
    • Coaching accepts and proclaims that each individual it’s an expert on his personal and professional life.   Still, he has the disposition to ride along with a professional and trained coach that will orient his goals, to achieve a continuous improvement on professional activities, thought process evolution, effective communication, and better professional and personal relationships, by using dialogues, reflexion, questioning and auto-listening.  All this will make the client get his line on thought in order, so his actions will be premeditated to achieve specific and concrete goals.

Coaching Plus focuses on:

    • “Here and now” opening possibilities of a “future vision.”
    • Being able to accompany people in the process of defining and aligning professional roles.  It will also consolidate vision and strategic planning of a corporation.
    • Helping people enrich his interpersonal roles resulting in better relationships. 
    • Letting his client determine his own “objectives” to be reached during the coaching process. 

Direct and Indirect Coaching Benefits

A lot of clients hire a Coach to work on specific goals, and most of the time, they focus on priories and clarifying professional matter. During Coaching process a lot of clients discover many new personal matters that were not aware off.  Then they realign the objectives with how they are.   • During coaching process, both will identify the things that distract the clients, or consume his energy.   Together we develop a strategy to get rid of this.  At the same time, coaching process will focus in identifying the things that promote energy and explores who to maximize the effect.  When the energy is positive, and balanced thoughts, you will be productive, free of problems, and life will definitively be more fun. 
  • As a coach I investigate, cheer, challenge,  make questions,  and listen to my client in order to keep him aligned  with what he wants,  this is,  his goals,  his values,  and his personal vision of life.   

Some of Professional Coaching premises are:

  • Non directive approach
  • The client has all the resources and the solutions.
  • The client is responsible for the obtained results.
  • Its holistic, systematic, and ecologic.
  • Creates balance between reflexive learning and proactive development and growth.
  • Evidences personal aspects o thoughts that are interfering and limiting the client to reach his goals.
  • It focuses on founding solutions and finding new possibilities.
  • The results are specific actions directed to reach goals.
  • Generative change instead of remedy change. 

Some of the advantages an executive will obtain of a Coaching program are:

  • Focus on his objectives and identify actions he needs to take to make them happen.
  • Generate and maintain commitments, be responsible for his actions and start walking the direction he wants to.
  • Acknowledge, accept, and apply his abilities, talent and knowledge.

Team Coaching is not:

  • Team-building: because its only goal is to increase the motivation on the whole team.
  • Team Cohesion; this method is utilized develop good relationships between partners. 
  • Experiential Learning:  it proposes learning by dynamic challenges.  Includes, some of the methodologies that are used in Team-building and Team Cohesion.
  • All of these methodologies are effective, nevertheless Team Coaching is not any of these. Team Coaching can use these methodologies but only with the purpose or extending the learning impact. 
  • Team coaching will always use the tools according to each team necessities. 

Team Coaching is:

Team Coaching has as purpose to accompany the team during the development of “Cultural Maturity” of the collective social system.  This procedure will try to develop the autonomy, responsibility and individual and group achievement in a logic and moderated way, in order to potentialise operation result as a whole.
Team Coaching is based in two different methods;

  • Diagnose
  • Feedback

¿What does a team coach looks for?

  • He observes and watches so he will be able to demonstrate the quality of the conversations.
  • Facilitates to the team an appropriate scenery to confront their believes, limits, and cultural impediments.
  • Opens conversation, so obstacles can be acknowledge. 
  • It demonstrates the impact of actual situations, and the consequences of not changing them.
  • He rides along with the team, in the process of assuming new challenges.

For this, a team coach, designs different forms of intervention that allows the participants, not only acknowledge the process of all the changes made, and the new concepts acquired, but also to take action, and reach a better co-worker relationships, be able to increase productivity, and even make the team obtain new challenges that will turn into extraordinary results.
